StreetSpeak.SF is a collaborative platform that engages strangers through storytelling in an effort to build a broad and unique community within the city.

StreetSpeak.SF is an open invitation to connect with your neighbors and to create a narrative time capsule of San Francisco. Our proposal aims to create a collaborative platform that joins the city’s diverse communities through an ever-growing collection of personal stories.

An interactive space housed in a photo booth, StreetSpeak.SF gives visitors the choice to tell a story or hear a story. The capsule is an opportunity for strangers to become neighbors, for their stories to join with yours and for communities to form between individuals who might otherwise never have the chance to connect. StreetSpeak.SF encourages passersby to become engaged with others in the built environment they share.

The physical structure will consist of a retrofitted photo booth with an Ipad for storytelling. Instead of taking a traditional photo, visitors are encouraged to either record a 60 second video in response to a question about the city or listen to a response from a previous visitor. At the end of each day, videos will be compiled into a time capsule and catalogued. Lastly, visitors who wish to not be recorded are welcome to interact and communicate via the Dialog Box on the outside of the photo booth.

[How it works]

1. Stop by and record your 60 second video in response to a question

2. Listen to the story of a previous visitor

3. Sign up via email to gain access to each day’s time capsule

4. Invite your neighbors to join in on the fun!

Let’s connect our city. One story at a time.
